Sage ONE Rods

With the holidays right around the corner, I thought I would show ya’ll a product that you might find on an angler’s wish list.  Last August, Sage announced the release of their new rod series for 2012: ONE.  Sage claims that this rod was three years in the making.  It is constructed from Sage’s Konnetic technology, and is the ideal rod for both experienced and novice anglers.  Other features of the rod include:

-Fast action

-Fuji ceramic stripping guides

-Hard chromed snake guides

-High grade, custom tapered, shaped cork handles

-Walnut wood and Golden Bronze-colored aluminum anodized freshwater reel seat

-Weights 6 through 10 have an all Golden Bronze colored aluminum anodized reel seat

-Black powder coated aluminum rod tube with Sage medallion

While I own a rod that is a fifth of the price of a ONE rod (715-745$), I can still wish.  Click the above photo for more information on Sage’s website.

The River Why

Here is the trailer for The River Why, a new film that is currently being screened in select cities.  The movie is an adaptation of David James Duncan’s 1983 novel of the same name.  It stars Zach Gilford, William Hurt, and Amber Heard.  Judging by the trailer, the movie contains some beautiful shots of fishing in Oregon.  I guess you can say it’s a more modern version of A River Runs Through It.  Plus, if anyone is a Friday Night Lights fan, does a movie get much better than Matt Saracen fishing?

Urban Fishing in New York

Here is an interesting video produced by New York state’s Department of Environmentalism.  While many people do not associate fishing with New York City, there are in fact many places to fish.  Though not specifically fly fishing, the video documents places for anglers and fishing enthusiasts to fish in both saltwater and freshwater.  This style of fishing has been aptly titled urban fishing.

Tell President Obama: Stop the Keystone XL Pipeline

The new proposed Keystone XL pipeline, which would carry oil from Canada to Texas, is being described as “essentially game over” for the climate by climatologists.  The oil would come from Canada’s tar sands oil fields to Texas in order to be refined.  The pipeline project requires a presidential permit, which means it is only up to Obama to grant the permit or not.  As the CREDO ACTION website states:

“The Alberta tar sands are a carbon bomb. The 3rd largest oil field in the world, the difficult extraction and transportation of the tar sands oil ultimately produces up to three times the carbon emissions of traditional oil (And extreme environmental devastation along the way).  The Keystone XL pipeline is the fuse to this bomb – a highway to swift consumption of this dirty, dangerous crude. As if that wasn’t enough, it poses a massive spill risk in the six states along the pipeline route, including over the Ogallala Aquifer which provides up to 30% of our nation’s agricultural water.”

So I urge you all to sign the petition to prevent the construction of such an unfriendly environmental monstrosity:
